A Dutch store owner, sick of shoplifters, decides to give the 10,000th shoplifter a big prize, including party hat, cake and an in-store marching band.
It’s unfortunate that they decided to blur out her face, we’ve always wondered what a stomach dropping to the bottom of one’s toes looked like.
Can anyone translate what the sign on the door at the end says?
(Thanks to Tim!)

Just using a translation site, it says “In Case of Robbery, we always do declaration at the police force.” The handwritten part (bijna) is the word for almost, so “almost always do…” So, pretty it up and it probably makes perfect sense to dutch people
Sure. It says, “En caso de robo, casi siempre hacemos denuncia a la policÃÂa.”
As the Dutch would say, that’s so slim!!!

Thanks for the great blog! Keep fighting the good fight.
The sign at the end of the Dutch video reads “we (almost always) report shoplifters to the police.”
Brilliant! What a completely snarky way to humiliate a thief.
why would you think for even one second that this is real
I can tell you’ve never been to the Netherlands, building.
Ah, the ingenuity of my fellow countrymen…
I’m sure the consumerist brethren will agree that this should be done for every shoplifter.
Camera work and positioning is too perfect. Calling this one a forgery. Can we have a marching band and cake?
This is the same company that did the wacky flash ad:
[producten.hema.nl]
So I’m guess viral video all the way.
@mantari:
I’ll admit, it does seem a bit too convenient. But at the same time, it is a big store so maybe they have a bakery. And the marching band might’ve been a coincidence.
Maybe she BOUGHT all the stuff and didn’t want to show the receipt. ^_^
So ‘yum, yum, yum’ in Dutch is ‘yum, yum, yum’?
It’s possibe that she may NOT have been the 10,000 shoplifter. It could still be that they had all this crap just WAITING for someone to bust the law.
Excellent work.
If someone had busted me that way when I was a shoplifting little snatch, I wouldn’t have EVER made a habit of it.
The sign says “Hema Amstelveen”, Hema is a big supermarket chain in the netherlands, I’m guessing Amstelveen is the town this particular branch is located in.
The next bit simply says “congratulations for the 10,000th shop thief”
