I bet it really looks good when it isn't a tiny 2x3" embedded internet video.
Great as art. Great, I would assume in HD, as a plug for HD technology. But only so-so as an ad for MTV--since when does MTV aim for Communication Arts subscribers?
That's more my general criticism of advertising, though. You've got to meld good art with good communication of product. A better example would be the Volkswagen commercial highlighting safety from two years back. Using creative typography and the sound of squealing tires, they smashed all the letters in "there are passengers and there are drivers," except "passengers" and "drivers." Understated, inexpensive to make, but creative and on-message.
Dammit, now my husband and I are going to have the "can advertising be art" argument *again*...
That is really beautiful. Completely pointless, but really beautiful. And I'd like to go on the record that their company name, and their site's flash intro, is just SCARY.
