Fidelity Loses Laptop Containing Customers' Personal Info

A Fidelity laptop containing customer's personal data was stolen on March 15th but one man didn't find out until last week, April 13th.

Among the personal info were participant's names, Social Security numbers, addresses, dates of birth, as well as their compensation and other retirement plan information.

Here's the full letter [pdf] Fidelity sent to notify its customers.

Tham sent in the letter, dated March 21st, which arrived at his father's house via UPS on April 13th, 30 days after the laptop was stolen.

Good thing he had a sufficient heads up, eh?

This is a test using rich text formatting and html links. It's the generic "company" ad that should appear on all posts with the Company category if they don't have an ad attached to a specific company.

Do companies need to start making REAL security policies, like "don't put people's shit on laptops" (I quoted from a company HR manual, by the way).
