Democrats to Exploit Oil Anger in Upcoming Elections

    “Democrats running for Congress are moving quickly to use the most recent surge in oil and gasoline prices to bash Republicans over energy policy, and more broadly, the direction of the country.

    “It’s a metaphor for an economy that keeps biting people despite overall good numbers,” said Senator Charles E. Schumer of New York, chairman of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee.”

We just got a new bicycle and its miles per gallon of water is very good. Best of all, those gallons contain no blood.

    You know, when you’re one of the people that’s actually getting *bitten* by the overrun of stupidity in government, it’s really disgusting to see one group “use” your misfortune to make the other look bad, even though you know damn well that neither of them did, or will do, a damn thing to make it better. If the Democrats want votes, how about showing us a solution, or at least a plan, instead of all this pointless bitching? We can get smoke blown up our skirts just as well by Republicans.

    Yup, just arrived yesterday. Despite nearly killing myself on the first downhill, (didn’t have feet in straps, didn’t tighten pedal enough and then it came off on the hill), it’s a sweet ride.

    The thing is, that neither political party can “fix” the problem, given the way they cater to businesses, the rich, and the status quo.

    Look at this:

    Republicans say they have spent years advocating policies that would reduce the reliance on imported oil, largely by promoting more domestic energy production, and they point to the energy bill that President Bush signed last August as a step in that direction.

    Okay, ask the petroleum engineers: we cannot increase domestic energy production enough to offset the declines here and abroad. It can help, but it can’t fix the problem. The only fix is to use less oil – way less – than we do now. This will take lifestyle changes. And as long as the average American continues to think that cheap gasoline is some kind of birthright, neither party can do much about it.

    Of course, their idea of “promoting” production means “tax breaks.” Guess which companies are making the most profits right now?
