Morning Deals Round Up

• In places in the midwest, there is an almost religious respect given to the mighty Chipotle. We suspect it is not that their burritos are so excellent, although they are certainly good, but that in our fast food nation, food that actually uses fresh vegetables should be cherished. Chipotle is running a promotion that will probably make the college boys go even wilder: Buy a $5 gift card between now and the 11th, bring the receipt back between the 12th and 14th, and receive a free burrito. • Amazon is selling TaxCut 2005 Deluxe + State for $20.95—free shipping for orders over $25. [via TechBargains]

Not exactly a full game, but a special version of the surprisingly enjoyable Trackmania racing game is available for free download to your PC. Don’t think racing sim so much as arcade racer (although we haven’t played this new version). Update: Don’t download this. It installs potentially harmful software on your PC. Our apologies.

• CompUSA has the Nikon D50 digital SLR camera for $600 with included 18-55mm lens. We’re a Canon family around here, but have heard nothing but good things about the D50.

• Today’s Woot! A Creative Labs USB Bluetooth adapter for twenty bucks. Okay deal, but you should start getting Bluetooth built-in to your machines if you can.

As a side note: HR Block has discontinued Macintosh support for TaxCut this year. Apparantly the growth in Apple’s market share has scared them off. :)

As a >5 year customer of Macintosh TaxCut (which was always more expensive than the Windows version for the same software) this was quite a blow… Oh well, TurboTax Mac will see an increase in sales this year….

Mmmmm, free burrito. I love that they’ve timed this promotion with Valentine’s Day. Get a giftcard for your sweetie, then take her out to use it and get a free burrito for your half of the meal. Or alternately, she takes the giftcard and tells you she only wants to be friends, so you run to the nearest Chipotle and drown your sorrows in hot meat. It’s a win-win, really.

Beware of Trackmania!!! As seen on Boing Boing, Trackmania is one of a number of games that have nasty malware associated with them! It slows your computer down, makes it unstable, and are a significant security risk! Consumerist, please make a note of this! Thank you.

Craptastic. I installed Trackmania on two of my PC’s yesterday. It’s a surprisingly enjoyable game. I checked, both computers have Starforce installed on them.

How depressing. I suppose I shall have to use the removal too, &c.

    Thanks for the warning, Harlan.

Update: After running the removal tool, the game (Trackmania) appears to work just fine. I double-checked device manager to make sure it was removed, and it no longer lists the Starforce items. I hope I didn’t miss anything.
